Volunteer Information for 2026 Season
If you are new to WaveRiders, please be sure to read this closely as there is a lot of information to know. For returning WaveRiders, still consider this email an important refresher.
Quick Overview
- All families are required to volunteer: 2 shifts per swimmer
- Most volunteer roles take place at swim meets (home & away)
- Sign up early to choose your role
- Unfilled roles will be assigned 24 hours before a meet
-
New this year:
- Social events = max 1 slot per family (0.5 credit)
- Maximum requirement = 6 total shifts per family
Why Volunteering Matters
WaveRiders is a fully volunteer-run team (except for coaches).
It takes ~80 volunteers to run a single home meet—your participation is essential to making the season successful.
Volunteer Requirements
We require every WaveRiders family to volunteer, at minimum, 2 FULL SHIFTS (which equals 2 points on the job signup) during the season for EACH swimmer you have on the team.
How it works:
- 1 full shift = 1 point
- Some roles = 0.5 points (shorter duration)
- Social event roles = 0.5 points (max 1 per family)
If you cannot meet requirements through swim meets, contact: [email protected]
How to Sign Up
Step 1: Select a Meet (or sign up when you commit your swimmer)!
- Website: Sign in → Calendar → Select Meet → Job Signup
- SwimTopia App: Upcoming → Select Meet → Work Shifts
Step 2: Choose your Shift
- Most roles are split into:
- First Half
- Second Half
Guidance:
- Have swimmers age 8 & under? → Choose first half
- Only older swimmers? → Choose second half
- You must stay until your shift ends, regardless of when your swimmer finishes
Unfilled Volunteer Roles
If roles are still open 24 hours before a meet:
- Families who have not met requirements are assigned first
- Remaining roles are assigned randomly
- Notifications are sent via 📧
Bottom line: Sign up early to choose your role.
