WaveRiders Updates & Reminders

Good evening, WaveRiders!

Tuesday was certainly one for the record books for extreme temperatures AND achievements! Despite the heat, WaveRiders set 171 new personal bests, 47 new time standard achievements, and four new team records - Skylar Byerson 25M FR; Raiden Rajkarnikar 100M FR; Bella Pew 50M BK; 13/14 200M FR Relay Team of Jose Mercado, Landon Pew, Ella Hudson, and Peyton Clark. It was a tough meet, but we showed up, stood tall, and raced with everything we had!

Please see below for this week’s updates and important reminders about Tuesday’s meet and volunteer commitments.

CHANGE TO 8&UNDER RELAY STARTS

We understand there have been some questions on this topic and apologize for not communicating details sooner. USA Swimming’s rule for diving starts states that in pools with water depth less than 4’ at the starting end, the swimmer must start in the water. CAL follows USA Swimming’s rule while also allowing for swimmers to start from the deck. Without clear guidance on what “from the deck” means, the Board voted to err on the side of caution and only allow in-water starts for swimmers swimming legs 2 and 4 of the 8&under relays where the starting end is less than 4’. This decision was made with our youngest swimmers’ safety in mind, and we are not the only team in the league to require in-water starts. Based on results available so far this year, relay times have not been negatively impacted when compared to results over the past two years.

VOLUNTEER REMINDERS

  • If you have not met your volunteer requirement for the season, please sign up for a volunteer job!
  • Any unfilled volunteer jobs will be assigned the Sunday prior to a meet.
    • Priority will be given to families who have not met their volunteer requirements for the season.
  • If you know your family will NOT be attending a meet, RSVP your swimmer(s) as “Not Attending” so that you are not assigned an unfilled volunteer job.
  • If you have a 9 or older swimmer, please consider signing up for 2nd half volunteer jobs as many of our 8 and under swimmers only swim in the first half.
  • Contact our volunteer coordinator with any volunteer-related questions or concerns.

  • If you missed the bulk order in May and still want to order team merchandise, you can order anytime via our new SwimOutlet Team Store.
  • We also have these items on hand for sale.

    • All NEW-to-the-team swimmers receive a FREE cap.

  • The app offers a free 7-day trial if you would like to try before you buy.

We Need Your Help to Clean Up our Record Books!

With the transfer to the new SwimTopia system, we have access to WaveRider records going all the way back to 2008! But, while we have records of times, we don’t have all the swimmers names for relays. Please check the WaveRiders record books, and if you have any heat sheets or result sheets that might show what swimmers were in a relay, please send them over to us!

Thank you to our 2025 Sponsors!
